worn a costume I had to explain all night
Halloween is the one night a year when adults dress up and then spend the whole evening explaining what they are. That is where this deck starts.
Costumes get the most attention, because they produce the most failure. Made an hour before leaving. Worn two years running. Unable to sit down in it. Unable to eat in it. Being the only one in costume, or the only one not. Not recognising a friend, and being unrecognisable to one.
Then the fear section, which is mostly about pretending not to be afraid. Hiding behind someone in a haunted house. Watching a film through your fingers. Turning the lights on halfway. Denying being scared while visibly shaking. Checking behind a door for no reason at all.
There is a good run on trick or treating from both sides — eating the sweets meant for the door, buying a second batch to replace them, turning the lights off to avoid answering, and giving out something disappointing because you ran out.
Clean throughout, so it works with children and at an adult party equally.
No. It is about the experience of Halloween rather than containing anything frightening itself.
Yes. Everything is clean and the trick or treating section is written for all ages.
At a Halloween party, or in the week before while everyone is deciding on costumes.
